If A Rose Tweets In The Woods...?
March 6th, 2010

Yes, this is yet another example of dear-old-dad lagging years behind his beloved sons and wife, who are all hip to the Twitter revolution. So Dharma Rose now has a Twitter feed. It is my best intention to use this modern miracle to update kindered folks on the micro-news of new (and of discontinued) shirts and other Dharma Rose news that seems to happen whimsically every week or so. This should offer the most pithy and often-updated news about Dharma Rose, eclipsing the more-detailed news in our Dharma Rose Newsletter and Facebook pages.

Signs Of An Early Spring From The Mountain?
February 2nd, 2010

Fairy Shirts We don't know much about groundhogs and shadows, but The Mountain has already printed all their new Classic adult and youth T-shirts, with the remaining dozen Evolution and Organic shirts scheduled in the next two weeks. Given that they didn't finish last year until May or June, this has to mean that T-shirt weather is just around the corner! Right?!? We are so impressed with the new art, that we have created an extensive gallery for your viewing pleasure.

Dharma Rose Mobile?!
January 24th, 2010
True confession time here: I don't even own an old-school brick-style cellphone, let alone one of these whizbang internet-ready techno-phones or touch-thingies. But, each of our three sons do own such devices, and encourage me to at least bring Dharma Rose into the 21st century, even if I remain a neo-Luddite.
So I am trying to offer a skinny version of Dharma Rose to our wireless friends out there. I have always tried to make the site as beautiful as possible (a sign of the frustrated artist within), and have voraciously consumed screen real-estate, so I have only been able to reduce to a 480 pixel width.
Please let me know if these pages are helpful, or if they are merely frustrating (and why). I will certainly continue the Dharma Rose Home (screen-hog) Version! Any suggestions are most welcome. The most robust section so far is our Mobile Grateful Dead store, but be warned you will be able to get places that are not yet (ahem) finished, so please accept my apologies in advance.

Artist Appreciation
The Folks Behind The Art On Our Fronts
January 9th, 2010

Having tried to eke out a living as an artist when I was fresh out of school, I can appreciate the dedication as well as talent demanded by that career path. As a demonsration of my appreciation and respect for their collective works, I have created a series of pages where you can browse shirts by the artist who designed them. Now, when a shirt by a particular artist catches your eye, you can click on the name to see all their designs.

Built To Laugh
December 10th, 2009

Humorous shirts are classic gifts, and we just added a mess of them to our store. While they may appeal more to country folk than city, you are bound to know someone who will find these shirts hilarious.

Magnetic Northwest
December 3rd, 2009
Those who have been with us for a while know that our Native Northwest line is a labor of love. We only offer what we have in stock as we import these beautiful items from Canada. The powerful artwork by Native Americans from the Pacific Northwest is truly unique, and we find it well worth the extra effort and expense.
Our latest additions to this fine line are quality magnets made in Canada (about 3" in size), and two new shirt designs.

November 22nd, 2009
Incense Gift Set
Shoyeido has a 300-year-old tradition of producing what is widely considered to be the highest-quality natural incense in the world. We have just received a new shipment from them, including inexpensive new gift sets that are perfect for lifting those stale-winter-air blues.
We have paired this noble incense with a collection of beautiful ceramic burners hand-crafted by three Colorado studios.

Two New Ways to Browse The Rose
August 22nd, 2009

In our continuing quest to improve your visit, we have implemented two new ways to browse our various categories. You can now see which items have most appealed to our other visitors, both in all-time popularity, and those that have been the hottest sellers over the past few weeks.
There are Favorites and Hot Lists by category, providing helpful starting points for those shopping for gifts. Even if you are not a Deadhead you can shop for one from a list of our most popular Grateful Dead shirts.

Ecologically Kind Shirts
Clothing With a Conscience
June 21st, 2009
Dharma Rose is thrilled to welcome a unique studio into our family. Earth Creations is dedicated to combining fashionable design with a conscience.
Their shirts are made in the USA, sewn in rural Alabama where their workers are paid a fair wage and work in a clean and safe environment. They use sustainably grown fibers, primarily organic cotton and hemp, for their fabrics. Earth Creations has pioneered a unique low-impact clay-dyeing process that uses no artificial chemicals, nor any salt.
It is truly our privilege to share these quality garments.

Summer Tunes
(and the living's easy)
June 20th, 2009

Since The Dead's acclaimed tour over the past couple of months, there has been a flurry of nostalgic Grateful Dead clothing for Deadheads of all ages. They include our first-ever shirt featuring Pigpen, and the classic Dancing Moose shirt from the first Highgate show.

Woodstock was August 15-17 forty years ago, (yes, that makes us feel a little bit old, but mostly still grateful after all these years). In honor of this auspicious anniversary there are three new shirts (in addition to our classic Woodstock 1969 selections).
There are also a few other, eclectic, music-related shirts worthy of your wardrobe since our last newsletter.

Dress Code
June 18th, 2009
The Mountain's Tank Top Dresses
Redefining Casual Comfort

Since The Mountain released the first of their new tank dresses in late March, these have been flying off the shelves, and we have had a very hard time keeping in synch with their availability. The Mountain has been working overtime this week, and expects that they may have finally caught up with demand.
Each dress is made from a beautiful medium weight, 100% ring-spun “soft-style” cotton. It's then dyed with our organic dyes and printed with water-base ink for maximum body breathability. Which means the cotton and the print become one after the first wash.
Our dresses are fashion forward in design, double stitched for added strength, with a reinforced slit on the sides to allow for maximum comfort and mobility.

Native Northwest
May 20th, 2009
Many of you already know how this line of T-shirts designed by artists from the Native Nations in the Pacific Northwest is a true labor of love here at Dharma Rose. We appreciate that they are worth the extra work and expense on our part, and are honored to have them as part of our community. For those of you who are not already familiar with these wonderful shirts, we urge you to visit the entire line listed on the left.

New Shirts from The Mountain
Mountain Summit
April 4th, 2009
Life Is Beer Full Fridge Mountain Classic - These are the designs we have come to love over the past dozen or so years.
The folks at The Mountain have completed their full roster of classic designs in both adult and youth sizes in record time. Now they can focus on re-printing those designs that have already sold out, and on Mountain Evolution.

Living Closer To Home
On a personal note, John has started a new website, complete with blog. Since Dharma Rose is sponsoring it, we thought that just maybe you might be interested to see another side of the Rose family.

New Shirts from The Mountain
Mountain Life
February 28th, 2009
Mountain Life - These shirts celebrate our active and relaxed lifestyles when away from work. They seem to have covered lotsa livin', including fishing, hunting, hiking, biking golfing, sailing, skiing, snowboarding, canoeing, four-wheeling, wakeboarding, and just plain chilling. Life is, indeed, good.

Life Is Wine
February 24th, 2009
Soft Touch Shirts for Women & Men
We suppose that this is the logical, even obvious, successor to The Mountain's previous new ground-breaking line: Life Is Beer. This time, however, there is an important difference: these designs are all printed on those wonderful, ever-so-comfy, ringspun cotton shirts. We dare say they have a more Californian or European look. How appropriate!

Patriotism Done Right
November 27th, 2008
Our friends at Sundog Productions have reached back to the founding documents of the United States to produce some truly inspirational shirts. Using their own parchment-dye, they have reproduced The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights for the Smithsonian Institution Museum of American History. We are truly honored to offer these instant-classic shirts to you.

Our New Cart
August 31st, 2008
Welcome to the new Rose...
Our brand new and improved cart went live on August 6th. So far, so great. The wrinkles have been slight, and we continue to discover new benefits. There may well be significant issues yet to be solved, but at this point it appears to be well worth the investment.
This cart allows you to create a customer account, reducing the chances of typos (we get invalid e-mail addresses weekly, making it hard to keep that customer updated on their order), and making future visits a snap. These accounts remember your contact and shipping information (including multiple shipping addresses), but not your financial information.
When you create one of these accounts, you will automatically be enrolled in our new frequent shopper program. Your customer account will automatically track these Dharma Points, and periodically we will send you a gift certificate or credit once you have accrued a certain number of points.
These customer accounts also allow for discounts, so... For the month of September, all registered customer accounts will automatically receive a 5% discount. When you sign up for our newsletter, you will get a 10% discount for September after we have moved you to the newsletter group (this usually takes 2-3 days).

It was Forty Years Ago Today...
June 21, 2008
Fairy Shirts Actually, it has either been forty-one or sixty-one years since Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play. Never the less, we are please to commemorate this auspicious occasion with seven puzzles: perfect for those rainy afternoons, or those long winter nights that are surely just around the corner.
Other Designs include, Yellow Submarine, a Jimi Hendrix collage, the Rolling Stones dragon, Pink Floyd armchair, and two fantasy designs by renown deadhead artists.

Facebook
February 12, 2008

I probably should have listened to our eldest son in 2004 when he insisted we had to check out the latest and hippest network on the face of the web, but given my lingering use of the word "hippest," clearly I was not ready. Better-late-than-never, Dharma Rose has finally joined the Facebook revolution. I have lots to learn before I can develop the page so it becomes a vibrant nexus for fans, friends, and family, but in the mean time, you are invited to visit and leave comments and reviews, and by all means become a fan!

Mmmm... Garlic!
November 4, 2007

John has just finished planting his garlic for the year. For those with gardens out there who need a new Fall project and do not yet grow garlic, you should have a few weeks left to get some in the ground (see our new guide below).

Return of the Native Northwest
September 23, 2007

Bear
Our Native Northwest collection is truly a labor of love at Dharma Rose. So much so that we are happy to meet the unique challenges and expenses of importing these beautiful shirts.
Given the inherent delays of imports we have limited our Native Northwest store to in-stock items. Of late our inventory has waned, so we are happy to announce that we have just received a new shipment, and anticipate several more before the end of the year.

Financial Upgrade
September 8, 2007

Dharma Rose has just added to your payment options, providing even greater security and more convenience than ever.

At Dharma Rose, we very much value your peace of mind as well as your business. We work hard to make your shopping experience as convenient and comfortable as possible.

Who Be Cool?
May 5, 2005

Dharma Rose recently invested in a new store front by purchasing a premium domain from a reseller. We feel that we are waaay cooler than most of the sites who show up when you Google "cool shirts"; if you agree, you can help us out in a big way by linking to www.cool-shirts.com.
Dharma Rose always welcomes links from its satified customers; it is a big help in keeping us viable compared with those huge, impersonal, commercial sites with enormous advertising budgets. It doesn't have to be from a big, fancy site; links from family, personal, hobby, niche sites are all welcome -- every link helps! You can help spread the good word by linking to our new store front at http://www.cool-shirts.com, and of course here at home: http://www.dharmarose.com. Thank you!

Shoyeido Incense
March 25, 2005

Dharma Rose is honored to welcome Shoyeido to our family. These master craftsmen have been making what is widely considered to be the world's finest incense for 300 years.
Their most rare and exquisite scent sells for $7.50 a stick. Presently, we are offering only a modest sample of their selection, but are already looking forward to learning about incense ceremony and appreciation from the masters of this eternal art. We invite you to join us.

Kwakiutl Native Northwest Artwork

I have long been a huge fan of Kwakiutl art (most commonly known by Native Northwest totem poles), and was thrilled to find an outfit who specializes in authentic Native artists from the Northwest.

Not only do they have lots of beautiful T-shirts, but they also carry an exceptionally wide variety of other quality merchandise. We expect to add generously in the future, but for now we are offering the plush fleece blanket shown below, and an apron; there will be more art for both those as well.

Dharma Rose Gallery
August 11th, 2001
Check out the first installation in yet another new feature at Dharma Rose: a series of galleries. This first room is in honor of our gardens section, and features a dozen photographs of butterflies found near our New Hampshire home. There are a couple we have yet to identify; any assistance would be most welcome. Enjoy.
